5 safety notes

Why it gets suggested: Raises the compound that widens blood vessels, getting more oxygen to working muscle.

Dose: 6–8 g

Tested as: Citrulline malate (8 g)

Why we could not verify it: The research we could find tested Citrulline malate (8 g). That is a different preparation, and a result for one form is not a result for another.

L-Citrulline for Muscle Cramps

5 safety notes

Why it gets suggested: Better blood flow is meant to get oxygen to muscle faster and clear waste sooner.

Dose: 6–8 g

Why we could not verify it: PubMed yields zero results when 'citrulline' and 'muscle cramp' are searched together as clinical trial terms. A broader search for 'citrulline cramp' in humans returns 7 papers, none of which test L-citrulline for musculoskeletal cramping; one paper mentions citrulline may relieve GI cramping in a review of athlete GI bleeding, which is a different phenomenon. The systematic reviews on L-citrulline consistently cover post-exercise soreness (DOMS), perceived exertion, and blood lactate — not muscle cramps. The evidence-based review of exercise-associated muscle cramps (PMID 34185846) does not mention citrulline. No human trial or systematic review testing L-citrulline for muscle cramps was f

Why it gets suggested: Better blood flow is meant to feed muscle and clear waste faster.

Dose: 6–8 g

Tested as: watermelon juice, not isolated L-citrulline

Why we could not verify it: The research we could find tested watermelon juice, not isolated L-citrulline. That is a different preparation, and a result for one form is not a result for another.

L-Citrulline for High Blood Pressure

1 study · 0 supporting · 0 against

5 safety notes

Why it gets suggested: Raises the compound that tells blood vessels to relax and widen.

Dose: 3–6 g

Why we could not verify it: The analysis pools arginine and citrulline together.
