Why it gets suggested: Your body needs B5 to make cortisol, which is the reasoning behind a stress claim.

Dose: 250–500 mg

Why we could not verify it: No qualifying human trials were found for pantothenic acid supplementation and stress outcomes. Every PubMed search returned the same cluster of unrelated results: a hydration beverage safety trial (PMID 38892699) containing pantothenic acid among many other ingredients, a topical panthenol skin study (PMID 27425824), and a hepatitis C antioxidant study (PMID 20518086). The only human evidence with any relevance is a cross-sectional dietary survey (PMID 33848753, DOI 10.1016/j.jad.2021.03.055) which found an observational association between moderate dietary pantothenic acid intake and lower anxiety odds — this is not a supplementation trial and does not test pantothenic acid as a primary in
