Ozone IV / Major Autohemotherapy
Medical ozone (O3) is introduced into the body via various routes (IV via autohemotherapy, insufflation, ozonated oil) to exert antioxidant, antimicrobial, and immunomodulatory effects.
How it works
Ozone reacts with blood lipids and proteins to generate ozone reaction products (ORPs) including lipid oxidation products. These act as mild oxidative stressors that upregulate the body's endogenous antioxidant systems (superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase) and stimulate immune cells. Also improves red blood cell deformability and oxygen delivery.
Reported benefits
- Immune system modulation and stimulation
- Chronic infection support (viral, bacterial, fungal)
- Circulatory and oxygenation improvement
- Chronic pain and inflammatory condition support
- Wound healing (ozonated oil topically)
- Anti-aging and detoxification support
Regulatory status
Approved for: Infectious wound treatment, Vascular disease support, Pain management (some countries)
Significantly more accepted in Europe. Italy, Germany, Spain, and Austria have established ozone therapy in medical practice. Italian Scientific Society for Oxygen-Ozone Therapy (SIOOT) has published guidelines. Several EU countries have national ozone therapy registries.
Not approved by MHRA. Available at some private integrative medicine clinics. Not covered by NHS. Practitioners must use ozone generators registered as medical devices where applicable.
FDA has not approved ozone therapy for any medical use and has issued warnings that ozone is toxic and has no known useful medical application when administered as a gas or IV. IV ozone (major autohemotherapy) is practiced off-label at integrative medicine clinics. Topical ozone products are in a grey area.
