Bifidobacterium longum 35624
Proposed to calm immune signalling in the gut and make it less touchy.
Say that in clinical terms
Proposed to modulate gut immune signaling (lowering pro-inflammatory IL-8, raising anti-inflammatory IL-10) and normalize visceral sensitivity in the gut.
How strong is the research?
1x10^9 CFU/day for 4 weeks; no significant difference from placebo on mean bloating or abdominal discomfort severity scores in a non-patient (non-IBS-diagnosed) population; a secondary measure (bloating-free days) favored the probiotic

Tested as: Exactly 1x10^8 CFU/day (0.1 billion CFU) was the only effective dose in the pivotal dose-finding trial — a 100x lower dose (1x10^6) and a 100x higher dose (1x10^10) both failed to beat placebo in the same study. Sold commercially as Align (US) or Alflorex (EU); formerly named 'Bifidobacterium infantis 35624.'
Who was studied: Adults, mostly women, with diagnosed IBS. Bloating on its own was not tested.
